Endurance.

In January 2026 I could barely run 5 km. Since then I've done a 50 km ultra and climbed the Zugspitze alone at night. A 100 km, a marathon, and an Ironman are still on the list.

Barely five

The first runs were humbling. Cold, slow, and over quickly. I decided that was unacceptable.

The ultra

Six months of showing up, then 50 kilometres in one go. The last ten were a negotiation. I won.

Zugspitze, solo, at night

Munich was stuck at 35 degrees, so I escaped the heat the only sensible way: up Germany's highest mountain, through the night, with a headlamp. Sunrise at 2,962 m makes a convincing argument for doing hard things.

Field note · 0 → 50 km

From barely five to fifty. The trick is that there is no trick: you just don't stop.

Still on the list

Unclimbed

100 km

The next number. It scares me the right amount.

Unclimbed

Marathon

The classic, done properly, on a clock.

Unclimbed

Ironman

Swim, bike, run. All three, one day.
